USC Alumni Association

Word from Widney

Celebrating the bonds and blessings of family has long been a holiday season tradition. As we prepare to say goodbye to another remarkable year in the life of the Trojan Family, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Carol Fox, the president of the USC Alumni Association Board of Governors, for her strong leadership and dedicated friendship; to our volunteers, for their unwavering commitment to USC; and to our university partners for their enthusiastic participation and ongoing support of our programs and events this year, which marked the 125th anniversary of the founding of the USC Alumni Association.

2010 also saw some exciting new developments in the distinguished history of the university and the Trojan Family. On August 26, we welcomed USC's new President and First Lady, C. L. Max Nikias and Niki C. Nikias, to the grand opening of our new home in the heart of the University Park campus: the Epstein Family Alumni Center in the Ronald Tutor Campus Center. On October 15, the university and alumni communities came together for the historic inauguration of President Nikias. At the end of October, we welcomed more than 800 alumni and friends back to campus for Reunion Weekend 2010, which this year coincided with Homecoming. Two of our signature events, the 2009 Alumni Leadership Conference and the 2009 USC Women's Conference, took top honors at the 2010 Circle of Excellence Awards, presented by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. And the 2010 Half Century Trojans Luncheon set an attendance record, drawing more than 500 members of the Trojan Family to an elegant luncheon at USC Town and Gown. Other highlights of the year included the 77th Annual USC Alumni Awards, our Weekender series, the 2010 Alumni Leadership Conference and the summer SCend Offs for incoming freshmen and their families, hosted by alumni clubs across the country and around the world. A toast to Trojan Wine Society owner Paul Kalemkiarian '80, who generously contributed a fine selection of wines from around the world and led the tasting. Word from Widney (cont.)
2011 promises to be just as dynamic, as we continue to develop and initiate programming that serves the Trojan Family and supports the advancement of the university. None of this, however, would be possible without you, our alumni, who are the lifeblood of USC. On behalf of all of us at the USC Alumni Association, I thank all of you, and wish you a safe and happy holiday season and a joyous New Year!
